They Found the Secret :: V. Raymond Edman

What would it look like to come across the secret to abundant living in Christ? Or as it is often called: the Spirit-filled Life, the Deeper Christian Life, or as Hudson Taylor coined, the “Exchanged Life.” While countless believers lived such lives, V. Raymond Edman reveals twenty individuals throughout history whose lives were exchanged for something far deeper: Samuel Logan Brengle, Amy Carmichael, Oswald Chambers, John Hyde, Ian Thomas, Moody, Murray, and Trumbull to name a few.

 

Of all the books on my shelves, this is one I continually return to. Their lives encourage, challenge, uplift, and draw me ever deeper into intimacy with Jesus. If you are looking for a great book of short biographies, you will find it; but the focus is not so much on their stories as it is upon the Person of Jesus as He invades and transforms their lives. As Edman declares, “The details of their experience of the crisis of the deeper life are delightfully different, yet their testimony to the reality of the joy and power of the Spirit-filled life is unanimous…It is [the Lord] who satisfies the longing soul. He is the secret of the exchanged life!”
