Romans 12:1 says, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper act of worship” (NIV).
I feel like this is a passage that has been quoted a lot in sermons, devotionals, and Bible studies. Sometimes, the challenge is to see familiar words like this with fresh eyes, with a hunger to see more of Jesus and His will for us in it than we have before.
I am not going to attempt to plumb the depths of what Paul is writing about here for you, but I would like to ask you consider a couple questions about this verse: (1) how is what we “do” in our church’s today – both in a worship service and outside of it – connected to “true worship” as defined by Paul here? And, (2) how is Jesus desiring to minister over the sacrifice of your life? (Note: this is also well-described in Hebrews chapters 5-10).
We invite you to share in the opening of our minds, hearts and lives to the movement of the Spirit of Jesus in our day, and hope that this issue of Cross Style Connection will help to center us on His Person.
